Weixin and WeChat are mobile app operated by different companies under Tencent group, but both provide certain interoperable services that enable users around the world to connect with each other. These services include chatting, making VOIP calls, sharing Moments, and using Weixin Pay or WeChat Pay features. The distinction between Weixin and WeChat users is based on their mobile numbers. Weixin accounts are linked to China's mainland mobile numbers, while WeChat accounts are linked to non-China's mainland mobile numbers.
Due to the applicable laws in different regions, Weixin and WeChat have distinct terms and policies to ensure compliance, while also ensuring that you can communicate smoothly with users globally. Specifically, Weixin users are subject to Weixin Agreement on Software License and Service of Tencent Weixin and Weixin Privacy Protection Gudielines (collectively called "Weixin Terms"), while WeChat users are subject to WeChat Terms of Service and WeChat Privacy Policy (collectively called "WeChat Terms").
It is common for a Weixin user to interact with a WeChat user, or vice versa. When an interoperable interaction occurs, a Weixin user will be subject to WeChat's terms, while a WeChat user will be subject to Weixin's terms. The information shared during this interoperable interaction will be processed according to one set of service terms and then switched to another set of service terms for processing, sharing, and/or storage.
