Linking a mobile number is essential to help ensure your WeChat account remains safe and secure. The mobile number linked to your account also helps WeChat comply with local laws and regulations in the countries and regions where WeChat operates.
Previously, WeChat users could register an account using methods such as email, Facebook, Google, QQ, or Sign in with Apple. For these users, linking a mobile number is now required.
