1. How can I request my data?
To request your personal data. Go to「Me」>「Settings」>「Privacy」>「My Information & Authorizations」> 「View and Export Personal Data」> Provide a valid email address where you can receive emails.
A verification email will be sent to the email address linked to your WeChat account. If no email address is linked, you will be prompted to link one. Confirm the email by select「OK」in the email, then return to WeChat to select the data you want to export. After submission, you will receive a download link via email within three business days.
2. Why haven’t I received the verification email?
- Ensure you entered the correct email address and it can receive emails.
- Check your junk/spam folder in case the email was misclassified.
- If the email address is invalid, update it on the request page and try again.
3. Why am I unable to link my email/confirm my request?
The confirmation link in the email expires after a set time. If it has expired, request a new verification email in WeChat.
4. How long will it take to receive the exported personal data?
WeChat will send a data download link to your verified email within three business days. If your account security is compromised during this time, a notification will be sent, and the export process can be cancelled.
5. Why haven’t I received the email with my download link?
- Ensure the email address provided is correct and functioning.
- Check your junk/spam folder.
- If the issue persists, link a new email address and request the export again.
- Alternatively, contact WeChat Customer Service for manual assistance here. However, this may take up to one month.
6. How can I cancel a data export request?
Go to「Request History」under「View and Export Personal Data」to see the request status and cancel the export if needed.
7. Why can’t I request to export my data?
Ensure your WeChat app is updated to version 8.0.16 or above. Requests may be denied if your account has been compromised or if you’ve reached the daily/monthly export limit.
8. Why can’t I export my chat history?
Chat history cannot be exported as it is not stored on WeChat servers. You can export the types of data, including: Personal Moments data, Favorites data, Personal account information.
9. How can I check the status of my request?
Go to「View and Export Personal Data」> Request History to view the status of your data export request.
10. How will I know when my data is ready?
A WeChat service notification will be sent when your data is ready to download. You can also check the status in Request History.
11. How do I download my personal data?
- When your data is ready, an email will be sent with a download link.
- Open the link on a PC or Mac browser. A webpage with a QR code will appear.
- Use the Scan QR Code function on your WeChat app to verify your identity.
- The download page will open. Download the zipped package to your local storage.
- Enter the provided password to unzip the file and access your data.
12. Why can’t I download the data?
Ensure you are using a PC or Mac browser and your computer is connected to the Internet during the entire download process.
13. Why can’t I unzip the file?
- Confirm the zipped package has downloaded completely.
- If the data is split into multiple packages due to size, download all parts and place them in the same folder before unzipping.
