When using WeChat for the first time, you’ll be prompted by your device’s operating system (Android or iOS) to grant permissions for the microphone, camera, contacts, and location. WeChat follows industry standards and only uses the microphone for features such as recording Voice Messages, Voice Input, or video recording, with the user’s knowledge and consent. It will never access these features without your permission.
To review or change permissions for your microphone, camera, contacts, and location.
- For WeChat v8.0.16 or above:
1. Go to the「Me」tab >「Settings」>「My Information & Authorizations」>「System Permissions」.
2. Tap Go to「System Settings」to view and adjust the permissions.
- For WeChat v8.0.15 or below:
You will need to adjust permissions via your phone’s system settings.
For Android users: Go to「Settings」>「Apps & notifications」>「App permissions」.
