1. Account Deletion/Erasure
To delete your WeChat account, go to「Me」>「Settings」>「Account Security」>「WeChat Security Center」>「Safety Tools」>「Account Cancellation」. Cancelling your account will permanently delete the account and its associated data, except aggregated registration data may still be retained for spam prevention and system security purposes. This is an irreversible action, so please proceed with caution before requesting account deletion.
2. Personal Information Correction
To correct your profile information, learn more here. You also have control over your Moments posts:
Go to「Me」>「My Posts」> Tap on the post you wish to delete > Select「Delete」to remove the post. Your deleted Moments will no longer be available to others. However, if a friend has already downloaded the post, it may still be viewable on their device.
For deleting a chat messages from your phone, it will not delete from the recipient’s device if it has already been downloaded. If you send a message by mistake, you can use the "Recall" feature within two minutes of sending the message to remove it from the recipient’s phone.
3. Data Processing and Sharing Controls
- Marketing and Ads: Personalized advertisements are only available in certain jurisdictions. Users in these jurisdictions can opt-out of their contact information (e.g., mobile number or email) being used for marketing purposes.
- Third-Party Data Sharing: We use trusted third-party services to support WeChat functions, such as:
SMS and VOIP services, Payment card processing and verification, Translation services, Location and mapping, Customer support, Content delivery. These third parties only process or store your data for the specific purposes outlined in the WeChat Privacy Policy.
- WeChat Open Platform: If you use third-party services via the WeChat Open Platform (e.g., Mini Programs or Official Accounts), you can control your data sharing preferences. Read more here for steps to manage third-party data access.
- Group Companies and Legal Obligations: Your information may be shared with Tencent’s group companies or as required by law. Beyond these purposes, WeChat does not share your data with third parties without your explicit consent.
